Daughter of the Soil, Betty V. Nisbeth has been singing and performing for as far back as she can remember. She remembers her first ever live performance at age 12 in her local church, the song was Tomorrow by the Winans. Her father (who never went to church) and the entire congregation were blown away and moved to tears, by her rendition. Shortly after she joined the Lollipops children’s choir under the tutelage of Anastacia Larmonie, Betty Nisbeth went on to win the Third Annual St. Maarten Children’s Song Festival in 1983.


Fast forward 10 years, Ms. Betty Nisbeth entertaining in hotels around the island – Royal Islander and Club Orient, and performing with bands like Bad Boys, Tonka and Friends, and Phenomenon.

When she discovered her passion for acting in the 90’s,  she came under the mentorship of St. Maarten-based Guyanese playwright, award-winning filmmaker, director and actor, Sir Ian Valz.  Sir Ian Valz is recognized as one of the Region’s leading playwrights & Artistic Director of the St. Maarten Independent Theater Foundation.


Betty Nisbeth was equally at home in the world of film and theater.

Various roles in different plays and films:

1993: Tradewinds; an American NBC Tv mini-series

2003: The Peacock Dance 2; a local cable Tv mini-series

2004: Antillean House; stage play also performed on Curacao.

2006: She was overwhelmed when told she was a nominee for Best Supporting Actor.

2007: The Panman: Rhythm of the Palms;

St. Maarten’s first locally produced and international award-winning feature film; which received Best Feature Film Award- Hollywood Black Film Festival, and Best Score Award – at the Brooklyn International Film Festival 2008

2007: Borderline; a local stage play.




Also in 2005, BettiV joined Youth Waves – popular band from SXM, who performed at many festivals and events in Europe, the USA, and all over the Caribbean. They’ve opened for world renowned acts Kassav, Steel Pulse, Lucky Dube, Wyclef Jean, Mary J Blige, and Shaggy to name a few.

During an 8 year tenure as female lead singer she recorded a zouk version of R&B song Into You on their album Voices in 2008.


When long-time friend Patricio Patou Piper (of Youth Waves and Youth Radio 92.5FM) offered the opportunity to host her own radio show, Betty eagerly took him up on it. She single-handedly created and designed the BettiV Morning Show to broadcast a distinctive blend of live talk radio with a mix of positive uplifting music, news & views, educational and practical information. With topics ranging from personal development and well being, to critical social issues, she exploited this new platform and successfully launched The BettiV Morning Show in 2010.

Over a 3 year span The BVMS aired weekday mornings 7am to 10am to a growing fan base throughout St. Maarten/Saint Martin and Anguilla…and worldwide via live stream.


In 2012, with the coaching of singer songwriter, friend and fellow bandmate Christine Gordon BettiV wrote and released her first single Hold On – fulfilling one of many childhood dreams. Also that year she recorded and filmed We Can Smile Again – a duet produced by local producer/ singer, songwriter, recording artist Dion Gumbs. Shortly following their St. Maarten Heineken Regatta performance in 2013, BettiV parted ways with Youth Waves to focus solely on a solo career.


Enter 2015, BettiV was invited as guest artist for the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta and rocked the crowd alongside Kelly & Kool Berry Jam (local rock band), and band-brothers Youth Waves.


Frequently you’ll find BettiV performing at St. Maarten’s most prominent events, concerts and festivals like Bill Fish Tournament, FCCA Conference, and the 26th International Congress for Caribbean Archeology, SXM Heineken Regatta and Moon Splash- Anguilla.



A true Island Icon BettiV has had the honor of jammin’ with friend and mentor legendary Bankie Banx (the King of Cool), Junior Jazz, and rising reggae artist Omari Banks… and she’s had the pleasure to open for one of her favorite renowned Jamaican recording artists, Etana.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Often you’ll catch her performing alongside fellow local musicians and artistes; Connis Vanterpool, Percy Rankin, and Essynce to name a few.


Nowadays Ms. V is focused on writing and recording her latest project..her first solo Album.

Ms. V describes the vibe of her album as conscious feel-good music. It is reggae influenced, R&B infused, a pinch of smooth-jazz elements while her vocal style blends jazz, funk and neo-soul flavors. The album is scheduled for release in 2016.


BettiV’s powerful, wide-ranged, smooth, sultry soulful crooning can be heard at her weekly gigs at the island’s popular places: Karakter, Taco Macho, and Layla’s.


“At this point in my life, I’m just following my heart…my passion…music…no apology.”


Actor, radio host, singer songwriter, recording artist, has definitely made her mark on St. Maarten and fiercely continues to do so!
